about

Despite having never played it back in the day, Ocarina of Time exudes such a strong, quiet assuredness that it remains a fascinating piece of work. Its Title Theme music is as iconic as they come, itself referencing the Recorder melody from the original The Legend of Zelda.

Title Theme starts out very intimate, with a single tin whistle playing the iconic melody over a quiet accompaniment of guitars and nyckelharpa - the first time the latter instrument appears on this album. Nyckelharpa is an instrument with a long history in Medieval Europe and can best be described as a violin with keys, with a slightly more raw sound.

I wanted Title to feel small-scale, but with an air of anticipation and mystery. As a pianist I had to work hard to not get the iconic piano part involved - it’s Hyrule Highlands after all!
