about

Prior to Breath of the Wild’s release, I decided to brush up on the Zelda games I’d missed out on during my short stint as a non-game playing person (moving across the country, becoming a father, acting out the final death throes of pretending to be a responsible adult). Seeing A Link Between Worlds footage blew me away. It looked so snappy! So I bought a 2DS just to play it. It was a very inspiring experience, with one of the most elegant and gripping stories in a Zelda game and a great Koji Kondo-inspired score by Ryo Nagamatsu.

Hilda’s Theme pays homage to Zelda’s Lullaby in the same way that A Link Between Worlds does to A Link To The Past. Zelda is innocent and hopeful, but Hilda is somber and wistful. Bringing the two together musically seemed like a logical step, and recording this Celtic version was a breeze - it’s the kind of arrangement that wrote itself. The Choir O’Tims returns once again - aided by some MIDI lady vocalists - bringing to life the plight of Lorule.
